OLD GIRLS' ASSOCIATION

In 1897, five years after the founding of the School, the first Headmistress, Miss Fanny Hunt, formed the Old Girls' Association (OGA) – the first such past students organisation to be formed in Queensland. From the outset, the organisation has enabled our students to keep in touch with friends and the School itself. A vital support network is provided through the OGA.

There are a number of branches in Australia which provide opportunities for fellowship. The OGA not only provides the School with many amenities through their fund-raising, they also willingly take part in many of the School’s initiatives. Old Girls have chosen to be members of staff and the Board of Trustees. This interaction between staff, parents, students and Old Girls is a vital dimension of the school community and is testimony to the values which are inherent in the school ethos.

The primary objective of the association is to promote fellowship among its members. All Old Girls of our School are strongly encouraged to join and participate in various events, including gatherings, functions, meetings, and informal get-togethers. These activities provide opportunities to celebrate and enhance the shared connection.

Our Old Girls' Association has a closed Facebook group where members are encouraged to join to stay connected and engage with the community. Additionally, members can use the online form to join the association or update their personal details, ensuring they remain informed and involved in Old Girls’ activities and initiatives.

We also welcome all Old Girls to join us for our Annual Luncheon on Saturday 14 June. Please complete the Acceptance Form to secure your seat.

Reunions

Reunions range from small informal friendship groups to larger gatherings at significant milestones — usually decades or half decades. These reunions provide the opportunity for all past students and OGA members to reconnect with each other. At each event, it is great to see old friends meeting after losing touch over the years and finding out about their lives since leaving IGGS.

A Reunion booklet is available which outlines procedures and advises what assistance is forthcoming from the OGA. As the actual functions are organised by the OGA Committee, it is a very easy way to hold a reunion, as many have found to their pleasure. It simplifies much of the work involved for the organiser and has proved very successful and popular in recent years. If you would like a booklet, please email: oga@iggs.qld.edu.au.
