Health Centre and Support Services

Our School’s Health Centre is staffed by a full-time registered nurse who is available to attend to any student who becomes ill or injured. The nurse also provides health education to students. Additionally, the school may liaise with other specialists, such as paediatricians, occupational therapists, and speech pathologists, to support individual students as needed.

Individual Attention and Support

Our staff work as a team to nurture your child’s special talents and support their challenges and individual circumstances. The one-on-one relationship between our class teachers and their students, along with smaller class sizes, ensures that all our young women, boys and girls receive the care and attention they deserve. As a result, our students are happy, positive children who feel like they belong.

Buddy System and School Values

Our Preps, and Year 7 students are allocated a buddy from an older year level to welcome and support their transition. This buddy system helps our older students care for the younger ones, initiating opportunities to care for others in line with our School values. At Ipswich Girls’ and Junior Grammar School, we are committed to creating a supportive and enriching environment where every student can thrive.

Additional Services

Please explore the additional resource available to support Student Wellbeing at our School.

The Life Skills program is a personal development initiative integrated into the academic schedule, aiming to enhance mental health and wellbeing in students. It promotes positive thinking and self-worth, while fostering responsible and confident behaviour. The Middle School program focuses on self-discovery, personal growth, and empathy, including activities and camps. In contrast, the Senior School curriculum emphasises independence, leadership, and career-related skills. Based on Positive Psychology's seven steps, the program strives to cultivate resilience and optimism in students.

Our dedicated Health and Wellbeing Centre provides a space where our students can take some time out and relax in a safe and caring environment with support always at hand, if needed. It provides various wellbeing initiatives such as meditation, yoga, personal development, health education, motivational speaking, and career workshops. Additionally, the Centre organises involvement in humanitarian efforts, fundraising, and community engagements, with previous projects aiding organisations like the Red Cross and World Vision.

Our school counsellors are essential in fostering student development by offering confidential and impartial guidance, available free of charge, on a range of personal and academic issues. They ensure a trusted space for students to discuss their challenges.

We provide an environment where our Junior students engage in both indoor and outdoor learning experiences. Our classrooms afford views of extensive natural play areas. These outdoor spaces are tailor-made for creativity and exploration, featuring elements like a rainforest with a boardwalk, a frog pond, and ample greenery. The school prioritises physical activity, disconnection from technology, and interaction with nature, which enhances essential developmental skills. Moreover, the diverse outdoor settings are utilised for a range of educational activities, including scientific research, literacy enhancement, and drama performances in the open-air amphitheatre.

Taking part in community service activities connects your child to the world around them. It teaches them social awareness, compassion and gratitude. Our students actively serve the community and enjoy developing projects and plans to collect donations, raise awareness about projects, and participate in fundraising activities.
